Every Spring, Washington D.C. plays host to The National Cherry Blossom Festival. 2022 will be the 110th Anniversary and will run from March 20- April 17. These four weeks of Celebration will be filled with food, fun and culture that draws visitors from all over the world.

The Festival's Origin comes from "The Gift of Trees" from The Mayor of Tokyo Yukio Ozaki to Washington DC on March 27 1912.

Along with The Gift of Trees-this beautiful sculpture was also given to commemorate Friendship to the City.

The Cherry Blossoms bloom quickly and leave quickly as well-so it's imperative that you catch them during the time of the festival. It's a wonderful experience to see in person. In the early phases of the festival, the trees present a mix of white and pink blossoms which are truly spectacular.

The idea of bringing the Cherry Trees to DC was introduced by Eliza R. Scidmore after returning from her first trip to Japan. Scidmore was the first female Board Member of the National Geographic Society. She lobbied for almost 25 years to get the Cherry Trees to the DC area-finally receiving the needed support of First Lady Helen Herron Taft-wife of President Taft in 1909. Interestingly enough, the first batch of 2000 Cherry Trees from Tokyo had to be destroyed by fire because they were infested with agricultural disease and pests.

A new batch (3020 total) would arrive in 1912 and be planted along the Tidal Basin of the Potomac River.
In 1927, a group of American School children helped usher in the event which would be recognized as the First D.C. Cherry Blossom Festival.

The great thing about this Festival is the many wonderful positions you can shoot pictures from and capture some beautiful moments that will be unforgettable.

The Festival is organized by The National Cherry Blossom Festival Inc., which is comprised of different Representatives of Civic, Governmental, and Business Organizations. It hosts over 700,000 visitors each year who arrive to admire these beautiful blossoming trees that usher in the beginning of Spring in the nation's Capital.
