After more than 55 years rooted in Southern Californiaāborn, raised, and sun-soakedāI finally packed up my life and hit the road for something new. My roots have been dug up and replanted, and let me tell you⦠this transplanting has refreshed not just my outlook on life, but the very air I breathe.
Iāve always had a nomadic streak, drifting from place to place, but as time passes, the idea of constant motion no longer appeals the way it once didāand thatās okay. Now, Iām craving peace, purpose, and a sense of home. Moving to Washington has been like hitting the reset button. Itās brought me a new kind of clarity, a stronger bond with my family, and a fresh way of living. After years of apartment life, Iām now in a house so big my last apartment could fit inside twiceāwith room to spare! š
The journey from Northern California was longāalmost 12 hours on the roadābut absolutely beautiful. And while Iāve never been much of an Airbnb fan, I have to give credit where itās due: each place we stayed had its own charm and character, spotless and full of personality. One even surprised us with an ocean view! When I realized our room in Lincoln City, Oregon faced the beach and was just a short walk down a cement trail, I couldnāt stop smiling. Thank you, my daughter and son-in-love (yes, in-love, because he radiates the best kind of energy). š
The drive itself was a reminder of how stunning this world can be. Sure, there were dry stretches, but the lush greenery before leaving California filled me with nostalgia for home. Then came the riversāthe Columbia, the Snake, and the Yakimaāall within a short drive from where I now live. The first time I saw that wide, glistening riverāthree times the width of what I was used toāI was speechless. Nature here feels alive.
Every state has its quirks and challenges, but Iām embracing the newness with an open heart. Iām ready for movement, growth, and a more peaceful way of life. Soon, Iāll start exploring the art sceneāboth locally and in nearby cities like Seattle and Portlandābecause wherever artists gather, thatās where I want to be. For me, I shine anywhere I can create, anywhere I can let all the color swirling in my mind pour out into the world.
Before moving, I did my homework and learned that the town I now call home was once a āsundown town.ā While that history is real, I believe some have evolved, and communities have grown. Iām choosing not to carry that fear with meājust awareness and wisdom.
So here I amāgrateful, inspired, and ready for this new chapter. Life is good, and living it the way I need to makes every mile of the journey worth it.
