BIRDING TAKES THE BOREDOM OUT OF RETIREMENT FOR THIS ARTIST

Artist Dewane Brown has been raising pigeons since his youth and now raises White Dove Pigeons specifically these days for a new business venture he plans to launch soon: BIRDS OF PARADISE.

Just a few years ago after the passing of a good friend, a lone White Dove Pigeon appeared in his backyard. The bird was unstartled when approached and even allowed Dewane to pick her up. He saw this as a sign that he should keep and care for her. He originally kept the Pigeon in his garage for a few days before deciding to release the bird. When he did release the bird away from home,- the bird returned back to his yard. This was truly a sign. He decided to build a large cage and purchase another bird for the bird to have a mate. Not long after, the birds multiplied into multiple families.

Caring for and raising these Pigeons is task that requires daily dedication to their proper care. Everyday they require a clean cage, fresh water, and fresh food and time to fly and exercise. Dewane takes great pride in the care of his pigeons and sticks to a daily schedule to ensure their proper care.

While the cages are being cleaned, The pigeons enjoy flying together in circles and in formation, and land and socialize on the roof of Dewane's home. In between flights the pigeons eagerly await to return to the cages for fresh food and water and watch him while he cleans and refills their dishes.

Once the cages are cleaned and reset, Dewane calls the birds back in. This was really a sight to watch because he has named quite a few of them and they listen to him like any pet that knows their name. One by one they return to their cages quite eagerly as they are ready to eat and enjoy the fresh water.

Once all of the birds have returned to their respective cages, Dewane closes up and secures the entrances to prevent entry by other pigeons and predators such as cats. The pigeons are now secure and safe and are able to rest easy until the next day.
