WHY COMIC BOOKS STILL RULE

Comic Books have been around for generations now, and are one of the few surviving media that are still around today. I personally grew up reading comics and still enjoy them today. The thing I love is that there are so many types of comics and genres available-if you've been into them for as long as I have, you can see the changes the industry has gone through since approval of "The Comic Book Code" days. Lots and lots of changes. When I was younger I'd save a portion of my lunch money during the week,and by Friday I'd saved enough to buy a few comics which kept me busy as I'd tend to read the stories over and again. Here's a few reasons why I think Comic Books still Rule and will ALWAYS BE RELEVANT:
1.)READING IS FUNDAMENTAL-Getting your kids to read comics won't be difficult as the cool artwork works in conjunction with the story to give the reader an understanding of what's going on. So In fact Comic Books HELP young readers to better understand and sound out words because they WANT to know what the good guys and bad guys or story is saying.Reading Comic Books can definitely prepare young readers for more advanced reading for the future.

2.)CREATIVE TALENT AND WRITING SKILLS DEVELOP I personally have always appreciated the different styles of artwork presented in comics and I also love to draw. Comics allowed me to try to draw the characters which was really cool because I had a natural talent.Reading Comics can definitely help you develop your skills as an artist or writer. Below is an illustration I did during a time I was collecting in my 20's of a MANGA / JAPANESE ANIMATION Character GUNDAM.

3.)OPPORTUNITIES PRESENT THEMSELVES
I've had numerous chances so far to be involved with some pretty great projects both professionally and personal. I really enjoy doing rough sketches of storyboards for films. Without my exposure to Comic Books, I wouldn't have gotten and understanding of how art and script work together.Keep Drawing Keep Writing! 4.)COMIC BOOK CONVENTIONS ARE AWESOME If you've never had the pleasure of attending a Comic-Con or another Comic Book Convention-then you simply must. It has really been amazing to see Pop Culture Conventions evolve from what used to just be just comic books. Today you can see all the toy companies, film, television,pretty much all mediums that popularize Pop Culture are what they are now...and Comic Books are STILL in the center of it all. Fans are now Interacting at Conventions in what is known as COSPLAY- or Costume Play where fans dress as their favorite Pop Culture Characters.




AND OF COURSE MEETING FAMOUS COMIC BOOK ARTISTS LIKE WHILCE PORTACIAO IS ALWAYS A GREAT REWARD FOR READING COMICS.
